Well, we made it California. Thank you for your prayers and calls along the way. It was truly a lot of fun. Here is a shot from our first Easter at Berkeley Avenue Baptist. There were several families who came together for the Easter Egg Hunt and the worship service had a sweet spirit. The church members are very excited right now, and I think we are about to see some really cool things happen. I have had some trouble with my INTERNET service so please excuse the slow update. I will have a new cable line run to my house next week so things should get better.

We are in El Paso Tonight at La Quinta

Tonight I am sleeping in El Paso. Here are a few first I saw today.

1. The Mexico/Texas border

2. A man cross I-10 on a horse.

3. A tumbleweed hit my van.

4. A really nice man who owns a restaurant named Chuy's in Von Horn. I had my picture made with him. Sports commentator Don Madden has made Chuy's famous by stopping there each year and listing it as one of his favorite places to each. Don always orders number 21, the Pollo (chicken).

5. A Texas dust storm.

Today We Made it to Arlington, TX (Dallas)

Things I have learned today:

1. Mississippi has the worst roads in the nation.

2. If you hold your coke bottle just right you can blow across the hole and play the jug with old country tunes.

3. GPS's can be wrong.

4. Learning to speak Spanish while traveling is a good idea, or should I say "bueno."

5. My CD of Ray Charles and John Lee Hooker was disappointing, but educational for $5.

6. Ravi Zacharias, noted Christian apologeticists, is muy, muy smarter than me.

7. Hotels which cost $29.99 are priced that way for a reason.

8. My dad can be really funny.

9. If you see some young ladies having a party at Applebee's in Dallas, don't ask them if the girl with the vail is getting married. They are rude.

10. Thumper is a good road companion, he reminds me of my family, and he doesn't have to make frequent stops at the potty.

11. Dallas has 3 great ranchero music stations.

12. Opera in English is comprehended just as poorly as Latin opera. And the music is equally as lame.

13. Singer/Actor Ricky Nelson died in a plane crash when he was very young. His last concert was played in Guntersville, AL.

14. I have 1717 miles left to drive. El Paso will be our next stop.

Thumper Cruises to Texas

Thumper and I made it to the Texas welcome station this afternoon. There we met a family from Madison, AL. One of the daughters said she would hold Thumper for me and let me take her picture.

Friday's Travels

This was my view for most of the day. It features a speedometer, back of a Penske truck, and a rabbit driving an Easter egg. (Given to me by my daughter, Korey.) From now on I will refer to this rabbit as Thumper, since that was my favorite character on Bambi.

Two Men and a Truck

My Dad (the "Original" Fred Bueto, as he likes to be called) and I got started a day late because there was a little more to load than we anticipated. But after a trip to U-haul for a trailer to pull behind the van, and then another trip to U-haul to get a bigger trailer, we finally hit the road on Friday afternoon. (No, we are not wearing those hats all the way to Cali. I just thought it was funny. Pierce will be coming Wednesday via Continental Airlines.) We spent our first night in Meridian, MS. (I had to at least get out of the state so my pride would stay in tact.) We'll head toward Dallas tomorrow on I-20. I know that many of you well traveled types are wondering why we are not taking I-40 from Memphis. We noticed some bad weather, including snow storms on that path, and decided to take the journey South.

Packing it Up

We'll we finally got it all packed up for the move to Cali. I told Korey it would be cheaper to mail her, but she preferred the airplane ride.

Wow! What a wonderful send-off from our church family at FBC Decatur. We are overwhelmed at the encouragement, excitement, cards, notes, letters and gifts from you all. This is without a doubt the most difficult thing we have done in our ministry -- to leave such wonderful students and friends and go across the country. God has been so good to us here. As we move to Turlock, California, please check back with us often and let us know what's going on in your life.
